Gulabo & Co. didn’t begin with a business plan, a menu draft, or a restaurant blueprint — it began with a ₹2 coffee sachet on a cold morning somewhere between Ludhiana and Jalandhar. In 2017, two college friends from IHM Aurangabad, Rishabh and Abhishek, were on one of their many carefree road trips through Punjab when a simple craving for coffee led them to a humble roadside stall. The lady running it had no fancy machine, no crafted menu, not even ‘real coffee’, as she put it. “Coffee toh nahi hai, par bana deti hoon,” she said with a smile that felt warmer than the drink she was about to prepare. She tore open those tiny ₹2 sachets — the kind usually hanging beside shampoo packets — frothed them lovingly with a ladle, and served it with the kind of sincerity that no café could ever replicate. That small moment, wrapped in simplicity and genuine warmth, stayed with them long after the trip ended. They didn’t know it then, but that cup of coffee was going to shape their future.

Years later, in early 2025, when life, work, and the chaos of adulthood had taken over, the two friends found themselves reminiscing about college days, old adventures, and that one cup of coffee that felt like home. Somewhere in those memories came a realization — that India’s true hospitality didn’t live in expensive interiors or curated aesthetics; it lived in people, in gestures, in small acts of kindness that cost almost nothing but mean everything. That was the day Gulabo & Co. began taking shape. They decided to create a space that honoured that feeling — a place where nostalgia blended with creativity, where good food met good intent, and where warmth was served without being asked for. The café was named after the lady who unknowingly inspired it all: “Gulabo,” the woman behind that unforgettable cup.
